About us

As an Iowa-based, 501c3 non-profit organization, we partner with Haitian-led organizations that are faithfully working in communities to provide education, agricultural training, and community development through environmentally sustainable practices.

Youth Action for Haiti identifies specific and urgent areas where young people and children are seriously disadvantaged and lacking basic needs. We empower those we work with to a level where they can bring about significant change in their lives and communities. YAH has created specialized and targeted projects focusing on the physical and spiritual needs of these groups of young people.

Youth Action for Haiti is currently coordinating:

  • Education: Our community school includes preschool to 7th grade and provides education for almost 200 children.  Most of the children in Maliarette grow up in absolute poverty, are at-risk and vulnerable to abuse. Given high rates of malnutrition, meals are also provided.

  • Agriculture / Farming: From family gardens to tree farms, our program targets youth and local farmers in rural areas and encourages a return to agriculture as a solid source for employment and food security. The study of plant ecology is therefore essential to successful harvests and understanding the biological functions and processes of the biosphere. As a part of our ministry we have plant nurseries that produce the plants and trees for our projects.

  • Community Development: We, at YAH, look at different ways to bring the community and our organization together, to talk about improving life and to solve problems. We strengthen the role of the community and promote development through increased awareness and community participation, support and collaboration.
